CALL FOR SHORT STORIES

The objective of the contest is to gather a collection of short stories that foster the spirit of living together in peace among children.

The stories should work the following values:

The stories are for children between two and six years of age.

The stories should help educators to develop their classroom work, as well as their creativity. They will become part of the collection of educational materials available to educators around the world.

The contest will UNTIL FEBRUARY 14th, 2010.

PARTICIPANTS

The contest is open to authors of any country. All the authors will provide their personal information, address and e-mail when sending their works to the Secretariat of the contest.

THE STORIES

The purpose of the stories is to foster the spirit of living together in peace among children. The stories should be for children under six years of age.

The stories should be original works, that have not been presented to other contests and the copyright should not be committed elsewhere in any way.

The stories should not be longer than a page (Arial 10). Only works in electronic format will be accepted. DOWNLOAD THE WORD FILE WHERE THE SHORT STORY MUST BE WRITEN by clicking here.

If they include illustrations, these should be in JPEG or GIF format. Any work that does not meet these requirements will be automatically rejected.

The organization of the contest reserves the right of modifying the text or the illustrations of the selected stories to prepare them for their publication. The final design of the story and the illustrations will be done by a professional editor.

Along with the story or stories and the corresponding teaching guide, the author will send a short curriculum and a photo and the attached form accepting the contest rules.

DEADLINE

Each author can present no more than three different stories and they should be received by email before 24:00 of February 14th, 2010.

The contest organization will be run from this address where the stories will be received.

THE JURY

The jury will be composed by the following personalities:

• The President of the World Association of Early Childhood Educators (or a person appointed by him) who will serve as President of the Jury.
• Well known personalities of the fields of early childhood edition and education.

OF THE JURY

The stories received by the Technical Secretariat of the contest will be distributed at random and in the same number among the members of the jury who will read them and make a preliminary selection. The selected stories shall become finalists.

The selected stories will be distributed among all the members of the Jury who will gather in a special session to select the winners.

Each member of the Jury will give each story a score between 1 and 10. When among the scores given by the members of the Jury there is a difference of 3 or more points, the maximum and minimal scores will be excluded and the rest will be averaged. The winners will be the stories with highest scores.

The discussions of the Jury shall remain secret and a record will be made of the final results.

The decision of the Jury is final and can not be appealed.

No more than one prize will be assigned to any participant, regardless of the number of stories submitted.

The contest and the awards can be left unassigned.

PRIZES

The winner of the FIRST PRIZE shall win a trip for two from his/her place of residence to the city of Morelia, México for the SECOND WORLD CONFERENCE: EARLY CHILDHOOD PEACE EDUCATION. This will take place at the Morelia Conference Center, March 5-7, 2010 where the award will be presented, including travel, accommodation and meals. Diploma.

Rest of the finalists: Diploma and certificate of edition.

EDITION RIGHTS

All the finalists will be published by one or several of the editors that have standing publication agreements with the World Association of Early Childhood Educators (AMEI-WAECE).

Sending in works to the contest implies the full acceptance of this publication by the participants. Any profits obtained from the publication by any editor shall go to a scholarship fund.

INCIDENCES

The Jury shall interpret and solve any incidences that come up during the contest and that are not solved by these rules.
