International Conference THE READING AND WRITING PROCESS to foster reading comprehension. November 11, 12 and 13, 2011. Madrid-Spain

After the PISA reports, we find that one of the most general problems in a wide number of students that complete their compulsory education is that of “not fully developing the capacity to comprehend texts”, this being an essential element to acquire and strengthen reading competency. To this, we ask, is there a disassociation between the process of teaching and learning that take place in the centers and what is expected of the students?

Maybe the key to solve this problem resides in analyzing and reflecting on the change that has taken place today on the conception of what is to reads and, in consequence, what it means to understand. We invitedMs. Lu Jing (Shanghai), ms Katja Stahl and ms Pauliina Pirhonen (Finland), Francesco Tonucci (Italia), Simona BoniLauri from Reggio Emilia Municipality (Italia) and Dolors Todoli (Spain), among others.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES DEVELOPMENT. Madrid, November 28, 29 & 30 2008.

The concept of competencies has slowly spread in the field of education, until it has been included in the educational reforms made in many different countries. To focus the school work on competencies requires the educators to look for educational experiences in which the children will put into use a set of capacities of different kinds (affective, social, cognitive, language, physical, motor) that reinforce each other. In general, children’s learning will encompass different fields of human development at the same time. Therefore, in this conference, our goal is to offer educators the strategies to promote, strengthen and develop the competencies that each child already has.

Among the personalities that have taken part in this event we can mention to Thomas Armstrong and Constance Kamii.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON "LEARNING TO READ AND WRITE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD". México, February 21, 22 & 23, 2008

Nowadays, we can not define writing only as the transcription of spoken language but also as a means to permanently fix our thoughts, experiences and memories and as a form of expression, communication and Exchange. Therefore, we have to keep in mind that in the learning of writing we develop motor, intellectual and expression activities. This leads us to a number of questions: What is reading and writing? When to start? What skills are needed? What method to use? How to foster and stimulate the process? To find the answers to these and other questions we had this conference where we offered space for reflection and for updating the information that is offered daily from many different fields, assessing the contributions of neurology, psychology and pedagogy.
